Love is in the air. And not just because Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.
Beyond all the oversized teddy bears, boxed chocolates and Michael Bublé albums, love is flowing at companies across the nation.
You know why? Because people love their jobs – and loving your job is important. I’ve found four main reasons why:
Satisfaction
What is “satisfaction,” anyway? According to the dictionary, satisfaction is the “fulfillment of one’s wishes, expectations, or needs, or the pleasure derived from this.” In other words, satisfaction happens when you get what you want.
Before you ever started working, what did you want in a job? A paycheck probably was near the top of your list, but what about your duties, responsibilities?
Why is it important for you to have satisfaction in your job? In a study conducted by Ferris State University, satisfaction plays one of the biggest roles in turnover. Ultimately, if you’re satisfied, you’ll stay at your job longer. Simple.
Health
In addition to securing those oh-so-precious health benefits, simply having a job you love can keep you healthy.
In a study conducted by Occupational Medicine, people suffering from depression recovered faster after returning to work. Ultimately, it was found that working gave participants structure and the ability to take their mind of things.
Progress
If you want to be more productive and successful professionally, it pays to love your job. In his blog, Chief Happiness Officer, Alexander Kjerulf explains why happiness at work is the ultimate productivity booster. In the end, happy people are more creative, work better, have more energy, fix problems, and are more motivated – it’s no wonder they make more progress in their careers!
One third of your life
Last, but not least, you deserve a job you love because it takes up so much time. The average full-time job takes up 8 hours of your day, that’s a whole third of the day dedicated to working. Shouldn’t it be doing something you love?
In the long run, you’re the one getting out of bed in the morning. Make it something you look forward to.
What do you think? Not everyone agrees that it’s important to love the job you have. Do you think it’s important? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
