How Your Friends Can Help You in Your Job Search

“I get by with a little help from my friends.”

- The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Where would we be without our friends? Our social lives would evaporate, birthday parties would become strictly family affairs, and our dream jobs will be a little further out of reach.

Friends are an excellent resource for any job seeker. Check out these four ways your friends can help you in your job search:

Support

Above all else, your friends are there to support you. Just got your application rejected? Your friends are there to tell you that you’re too good for that job and any employer would be lucky to have you. Your friends help keep you sane.

Advice

In your group of friends, you probably know a few that are in your same field and maybe even a couple who are successful. Turn to these friends for advice on getting into the industry, for resume reviews–whatever you need to get that extra leg up.

Networking

Just because you’ve known someone since kindergarten doesn’t mean that you can’t use their contacts or connections to get your foot in the door! We at Cachinko are big believers in this fact, which is one of the reasons why we created our Job Matching and Career Networking Facebook app. You never know how close you are to Oprah or Steve Jobs until you look.

Honesty

Where would we be without that friend who tells us, “No, that tie does not go with that shirt, or a slew of other painfully honest points. It might hurt a little bit, but it’s always better to get an honest opinion from a friend than a fake smile from a potential employer or mentor.
